Lord willing on Sundays I will be posting what I would like to call Sunday Sermon Synopsis. This blog will be dedicated to summerizing and epounding on the teachings I hear weather in person or online. Todays synopsis is froma in person service hosted at Live Oak Church in Hinesville Georgia under the leadership of Isreal Cowart.
His sermon was titled "You Better Belive it!" text: Luke 2:6-20.
When we think about the goodness of God, our minds often drift to the countless blessings we experience daily. From the beauty of nature to the love of family and friends, God's goodness is woven into the fabric of our lives. However, one of the most profound ways God shows His goodness is through the people He sends into our lives—those who are equipped to nurture our calling and help us grow.
Let’s take a moment to reflect on a beautiful passage from the book of Luke, specifically Luke 2:6-20. This passage tells the story of the birth of Jesus, a moment of divine purpose wrapped in humility. As Mary and Joseph settled in Bethlehem, the shepherds were out in their fields, minding their business. Suddenly, an angel appeared, bringing news of great joy: the Savior had been born!
What’s fascinating here is that God chose shepherds—ordinary, humble men—to be the first to hear about His extraordinary plan. He didn’t send kings or religious leaders; He sent those who could appreciate the beauty and significance of the moment. This was not just a coincidence; it was a divine appointment. The shepherds, in their humble roles, were perfectly qualified to witness the birth of Christ and to spread the word about His coming.
When we think about our own lives, we often wrestle with the question of our calling. What are we meant to do? How do we fulfill the purpose that God has placed in our hearts? The reality is that our callings are as unique as our fingerprints. Some of us are called to teach, some to lead, some to create, and some to serve. But here’s the beautiful truth: God doesn’t leave us to figure it all out on our own.
Just as He sent the shepherds to witness the birth of Jesus, He sends people into our lives who are qualified to help us walk in our calling. These individuals may come in various forms—mentors, friends, family, or even complete strangers who happen to cross our paths. Their role is to sow into our lives, to encourage us, and to help us cultivate the gifts and talents God has given us.
It's essential to recognize that these divine connections often happen naturally. Sometimes, we may feel the urge to force our way into a situation, seeking recognition or acceptance. We may want to yell, “Look at me! I have something to offer!” But here's the truth: God isn’t interested in our frantic efforts to be seen. He’s far more concerned with orchestrating the right connections in His perfect timing.
So, instead of striving for visibility, let’s lean into the goodness of God and trust that He will send those who understand and agree with our calling. It’s about waiting with open hearts, being receptive to the people He places in our lives.
Imagine the shepherds, after receiving the angel’s message, rushing to find the newborn Savior. They didn’t hesitate; they followed the star, guided by faith and excitement. When they arrived, they found Mary, Joseph, and the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, just as the angel had said. They shared the good news, and their excitement lit up the night.
In the same way, when God sends people into our lives, they often come with a message of encouragement, wisdom, and support. They help us see the beauty of our calling, even when we’re unsure or hesitant.
So, how can we create space for these connections? Here are a few ideas:
1. Be open and approachable: Cultivate an attitude of openness. Let others know you’re willing to share and receive.
2. Pray for divine connections: Ask God to bring the right people into your life. Be specific about the kind of support you need. Mere men have no athourity over divine intervention!
3. Engage with your community: Participate in activities that align with your interests and passions. You never know who you might meet!
4. Be patient: Trust that God’s timing is perfect. Sometimes, connections take time to form, and that’s okay.
5. Listen and learn: When someone comes into your life, be willing to listen. They may have insights or experiences that can help you grow.
As we reflect on the goodness of God, let’s remember that He is intricately involved in our journeys. Just as He sent the shepherds to witness the birth of Jesus, He is sending people to us who will help us embrace our callings. Let’s not force ourselves to be seen or accepted. Instead, let’s rest in the assurance that God has a perfect plan, and He’s already working behind the scenes to bring the right people into our lives.
So next time you feel unsure about your calling or wonder if you’re on the right path, remember the shepherds. God’s goodness is all around you, and He’s got your back. Trust Him, and watch as He brings the right people into your story, ready to support you on your journey.
